Shire Cottage is a traditional two bedroom holiday cottage located in the middle of the popular Georgian market town of Holt, North Norfolk, UK.
This house is perfect for both romantic breaks and family holidays, sleeping up to 4 people. Guests enjoy the enviable location, well-equipped kitchen, cosy living room, comfy beds and convenient private off-street parking.
Its prime town centre position and outlook towards the renowned Byfords of Holt makes Shire Cottage the ideal place to stay and explore the beautiful Norfolk coast and countryside whilst living amongst the county’s finest independent shops, galleries, boutiques, cafes and restaurants.
Shire Cottage is available all year, with seasonal rates and discounts available on stays of 7 nights or more. Where short breaks are available, there is a 3 night minimum stay policy, with a Monday or Friday changeover.

We are a mum and daughter team who have been independently managing holiday lets at Shire Cottage since 2005. It will be our pleasure to welcome you to our cottage in North Norfolk!

King Room
The master bedroom features a comfy king size bed with views across Shirehall Plain towards Byfords and its beautiful brick and flint facade. There’s a wardrobe, shelving and dressing table so you can unpack and make yourselves at home. There’s a wall-mounted TV and black-out blind with space to fit a travel cot if required.
Twin Room
The twin room enjoys the same view and is perfect for children. One of the beds can be stored to make a more spacious single room or space for a travel cot if required – please request when booking. There’s hanging space, drawers, a blackout blind and wall-mounted TV.
Bathroom
The bathroom is upstairs and features a clawfoot bath with handheld shower. Please note that there is no separate shower – and please bear this in mind if you are a shower-only person! Bath towels are provided for your convenience, but please bring your own beach towels.
Living Room
The living room provides ample space for relaxing and dining. There’s a leather corner sofa and Smart TV with DVD player, inglenook fireplace with electric fire and a 4 seat dining table. You’ll also find a selection of books, games and local guides as well as a DAB radio.
Kitchen
Designed by us and made in Holt, the kitchen has granite worktops, a butler sink and integrated Bosch appliances; including a dishwasher, fridge and freezer, induction hob and oven with integrated microwave. You should find everything you might need!
Outdoors
Double gates provide privacy as well as access to the gravel driveway and small garden at the front of the house. There’s a bench and bistro table so you can enjoy this sheltered sun-trap; it’s a surprisingly tranquil spot to enjoy a glass of wine on a sunny evening.
What a picture-perfect cottage smack bang in the middle of a chocolate box town – a brilliant location for our family to visit the North Norfolk coast and it’s beaches. Having our own parking spot made it so easy, as did getting breakfast from the amazing bakers & deli right across the road.

Self Check-in & Check-out
Arrival for new guests is any time from 4:00pm. We will contact you in advance with arrival instructions for self check-in. Please contact us if you have any questions on arrival.
We ask that you vacate the cottage by 10:00am on your departure day.
These times enable our housekeeper to clean and prepare the property for the next guests. It also means we have ample opportunity to arrange and conduct any routine or emergency maintenance, if necessary.
We respectfully ask that you do not park on the driveway or access the cottage outside of these agreed times, unless by prior arrangement directly with the owner.
Payment Schedule
Full payment is required to secure your booking if your arrival date is less than 8 weeks from the date you book.
If booking more than 8 weeks in advance, a 25% deposit is payable with the balance due at least 8 weeks before arrival. You may arrange payment in full if you prefer.
You are responsible for making payment on time.
Cancellation Policy
All payments are non-refundable and we recommend you arrange travel insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances. Booking dates cannot be changed. If you need to cancel your booking with more than 28 days' notice and we are able to re-book the dates we may be able to issue a partial refund. We cannot guarantee any refund in the event of cancellation less than 28 days before your planned arrival.
We reserve the right to cancel your stay at any time in the unlikely event that we are unable to accommodate you at Shire Cottage due to unforeseen circumstances. Should this be necessary, we will contact you immediately to offer a full refund or alternative date.
Covid-19 Information
In the event of government-imposed restrictions on travel affecting your stay, we will automatically postpone your booking and issue a credit note to be used for a future date. Should you prefer a full refund, please contact us to make arrangements.

We found Shire Cottage to be a perfect place to stay for a few days break. It is spotlessly clean and furnished with high quality items (the multi-function oven kept my husband entertained for 30 minutes!) that made the break feel special – we felt at home straight away. Holt is delightful and friendly having everything on your doorstep made a perfect contrast to our normal village life. Definitely recommend.
